Recently I went to see the new remediated version of The Jungle Book and I must say I was very impressed, a fantastic use of cast, CGI and storyline. I have had my criticism's on remaking classic gems but this one is truly astounding and the CGI is some of the cleanest and nice to look at I've ever seen. For any of those that have seen the film this video above really shows the shooting stages of shooting a CGI based film and how they used the only real action actor Neel Sethi (Mowgli) to carry the story along, with the help of well designed sets and choreographed CGI. The storyline is very powerful and represents morals of evil and good and even depicts humans in a very accurate way whilst also showing the love between Mowgli and the jungle. Bill murray is also mad fitting as a bear, lots of laughs out of that. Louis out. If you haven't seen it heres the trailer:

Our final group project. A fun and interesting production, a very different storyline to previous stuff I have worked on but very cool and interesting to map out shots for and to create something of a more gothic time, the first time I've ever worked on a fantasy piece! For this I mostly did a lot of handheld camera shots some tripod cinematography and I also took it on myself to do a lot of the sound recording with the help of Max. Overall I'm happy with how it turned out considering the problems we had with time and deciding roles on the day. We also had some serious problems with permission to shoot at one of the churches and a bit of intimidation from people in the local area, who were less than happy with us filming there. But with a little help from the churches trust we managed to secure another local parish to film in, which in actual fact was a better interior church.

MOBILE PHONE MOVIE MAKING

Recently I've been researching and looking more into mobile phone filmmaking and how you really don't need a huge expensive camera to be creative. In todays society you can download an app to write a script on your mobile, film the film on it and even edit your film on your little mobile device. Rendering this form of filmmaking inexpensive and available to virtually all. This website I've linked above is a film festival society that does everything in its nature to promote films produced on mobiles. BBC World News have quoted their film festival events as:
“One of the most interesting and exciting events from around the world.” which demonstrates it's popularity and worldwide acknowledgement

Here is a excellent example of a film that was created on an I-phone and submitted into the momofilmfest, It's quite hard to believe that this film was produced on an i-phone especially with how nice some of the cinematography is.

THE PARTY - DISSERTATION FILM

Here it is people. My very own short 12 minute film. What a journey it has been, from finding my lead role to getting through long days of shooting. Blood sweat and tears, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. My film contains strong themes of drugs, emotional instability and love. I really tried to chase realism in creating my film, and wanted to make sure every aspect of it looked/sounded/felt as real as possible I love the genre of Brit Grit and realism in british independent films so really wanted to make sure that was evident in my short film.

ENJOY

VIRTUAL REALITY

Currently, virtual reality is something that intrigues me continually. For years people like Bolter and Grusin or Henry Jenkins have talked about it and it's effects on people and how it may change the future for better or for worse. I have yet to use a VR (virtual reality) device myself but I look forward to the day where I may explore (hoping that when I do get a chance to use one it is one of the more immersive and detailed experiences). This video above really shows some positives of using VR in hospital, specifically for patients that are bed ridden, terminally ill and that don't have a very good livelihood day to day. Bringing more excitement into their lives than just the nature of the hospital bed and room, helping their wellbeing and general health. A step on the right direction for this technology.

Peter Jackson talks about his use of 48fps and backs up why he used it and how he thinks our industry is going to change. He discusses how we need to initiate certain technologies to keep people involved in cinema and excited about the immersion it brings. I definitely agree with some of his views although I didn't see any of the hobbit films myself in the high frame rate format I've been told by hobbit fans and people that I'm friends with just how impressive it was. And I can fully believe that we could adapt to watching films in this way and many big directors especially within action packed/fantasy films would really benefit from this use.
